Possible to set daily goals?

In a similar vein, I have a Beeminder goal for doing the cat box three
times per week. That works decently, but I can build up enough margin by
doing it every other day that I can go four or even five if I’m feeling
lazy, which is all the time. It’s not healthy for my cat or nose.

I wouldn’t mind a different sort of goal that’s deliberately inflexible,
having Beeminder’s teeth behind a “cat box every other day without fail”
sort of goal.

This.
I’ve missed being able to force myself to do something every day. I would
really like to have that again.

Sometimes when I’m trying to just create a habit, I’ll require very little
of myself at first, but I’ll want to be able to require that of myself
every day. If I do better than usual on a given day, though, I end up stuck
with several days of safety and can’t get it down to below 2 days with
retroratcheting or with safe days. I, too, would really like to have that
option back.

By the way, if your goal is to write every day, instead of making a road
with a daily rate of 750, I suggest making one with a daily rate of 1, and
enter a data point of ‘1’ every time you write more than 750 words. A road
with a rate of 750 means you want to write 750 words per day on average,
which is very different from the way 750words.com works.

When I have a situation like this (goal is less frequent than once a day,
and I don’t want to wait much longer than the road dial average between
times I do it), if I do end up doing a goal much earlier than the deadline,
I like to retroratchet just before entering the new datapoint. That way I
never have to do the goal more frequently than is defined in the road dial,
and I still can’t build up a margin to go significantly longer than the
average amount of time needed between data points.

I wouldn’t mind a different sort of goal that’s deliberately inflexible,
having Beeminder’s teeth behind a “cat box every other day without fail”

I had it set up that way at first but wanted to be able to see how many

Wait, that will be super sad if you have to switch to lower-fidelity

It’s a little hackish, but you can enter a negative datapoint to cut
down your safety buffer to whatever you want, and then go from there. I’ve
used that trick a few times in the past, especially for these sorts of “do
something once a day” goals.

I’d like to set a daily goal of writing 750 words a day so I set the
daily rate to be 750.

When I entered my writing for today (800), it gives me 3 days
until derailment. Even with retroratchet, it cuts it down to 2 days until
derailment.

Is it possible to make it so that there’s only 1 day until
derailment so that I’m required to enter 750 everyday?

thanks!

That would be great. No longer being able to have 0 safe days mean “0 safe
days” was a real bummer. It would be great to have that working again.

Wait, that will be super sad if you have to switch to lower-fidelity

Maybe stand by while we see if we can fix that this weekend?

I had it set up that way at first but wanted to be able to see how many
words I was writing each day and eventually change my goal to 800/day
900/day 1000/day etc. Sounds like there’s no way to do that currently
though
right?

By the way, if your goal is to write every day, instead of making a
road
with a daily rate of 750, I suggest making one with a daily rate of 1,
and
enter a data point of ‘1’ every time you write more than 750 words. A
road
with a rate of 750 means you want to write 750 words per day on
average
,
which is very different from the way 750words.com works.
