# Goals named "null" cannot be renamed

(clickbait alternative title: Do NOT name a goal “null” 💀💀💀)

I renamed a goal “null” and found it can’t be renamed away from that, and also lacks some other functionality, namely being deleted.

I was sure we had fixed this recently. Turns out that was just [for usernames](http://beeminder.com/changelog#4850), not goalnames. Thanks for the bug report! DM me for stickers!

You might have been thinking of [the similar fix](https://changelog.beeminder.com/#3719) a few years ago for goal names like [`archived`](https://forum.beeminder.com/t/avoid-using-archived-as-a-goals-slug/9183) and `settings`.

Aha, thank you! So, yeah, this should be a trivial fix, modulo cleanup of existing thusly-named goals. Hit up [support@beeminder.com](mailto:support@beeminder.com) in the meantime.

Also in the meantime, I guess our answer is [come up with better goalnames](https://blog.beeminder.com/goalnames "I'm still quite pleased with this post; we've also been talking about goalnaming in the Discord which, if you're reading link hovertext probably you want to join us in -- DM me for an invite")!
