It’s been a year. The big choir performance was amazing, and thanks to beminder I felt actually ready. We always perform with choreo. I used to feel like as for choreo I’m the weakest link. But something clicked now. Turns out if you practice enough, it’s actually doable. Still not a dancing queen, but no need to get all nervous over it.
All goals I used to have, were archived at some point due to feeling like they didn’t really work well, the way they were set up. But my weight went up again, and screentime got a bit problematic too. So I thought a bit about the goals I want.
Weight - rather than forcing myself to really lose weight, I want to keep my BMI beneath 25. I calculated which weight corresponds with that goal, set a healthy deadline to archieve it (end of october, but I already reached it) and then stretched the deadline to the end of march, with a target value of 0,01 kg below my goal weight. So that I’ll notice if I get anywhere near again.
To prevent myself from skipping the scale I set up a weight frequency goal, but I might want to turn that goal into custom. Because now I can measure my weight three days in a row, and then I don’t have to weigh myself for three weeks. Any suggestions? I want to have less than 3 days of buffer.
Screentime: I tried some do-less goals on using my phone at night and not exceeding X hours, but the deadlines that came with it made no sense. However, iOS 27 shortcuts came with two major improvements: 1) the ability to detect if a vpn is active and 2) the ability to store data within the app.
I use screenzen to block apps at night and specific daytime rules, and freedom to block the sites I don’t want to visit with vpn.
If I open settings at night, data is stored and will log a zero and timestamp for every attempt. If no attempts were detected, I automatically log a succesfull night at 8:15 AM, with a date stamp. The commitment is set to six days / week, with an initial buffer of 2 and 1 day post-derail respite.
VPN works almost the same: if I open the browser and no vpn is detected, data is stored with timestamp. If no data is stored at the end of the day, I get 1 succesfull day. Other settings are the same (except that I accidently got one day initial buffer less, but that’s fine).
I’m considering a new goal for brushing teeth in the morning too, it went out of my system after some life events. But I don’t want to try too much at once, and I’m still brainstorming on how I could log something like that.
Another goal I considered this morning: quitting freedom on my pc. But instead I use a schendule with three 2 hour locked sessions now, so that I can still block the sites I don’t want to visit. But there is a very limited option to turn the sessions off for the rest of the day if needed. Setting up an automated Beeminder goal that only gets triggered if turned off is too much trouble in this case.
