New Year’s Resolutions: No Excuses 2025

How’s everyone doing? I’ve been very happy with how this goal has gone. I was actually wrong about which goal I’d picked, I never changed the rate on /2025backlog, though I did have a derailment on it. I’m pretty sure I will comfortably finish the year having read 100 books from my backlog, plus some extras. (Along with a large number of library books, books from subscriptions, books bought in 2025, and so on.)

It’s been going fine for me. The project (as a position) is nearing its end, I am almost done with the deliverables. 20+ months in, and this goal is still doing its job in motivating me to put in effort on a daily basis - though, admittedly, I have become much laxer with what counts than in the beginning.

I am so ready for a more fun year-long goal for the next year!

Final report for the year: I ended up derailing 4 or 5 times over the year (smh can’t count properly) (vs 0 last year) but with the increased rate, I did 15% more than last year (adjusted for the fact that I didn’t start on Jan 1 in 2024). I have been more lax with what counts recently - when I just started, only substantial work on the project counted; writing admin emails to enable this work didn’t. Almost two years in, I have to admit that sometimes you just write emails for 4 hours straight to move things forward and this is the most important to-do for the project on that day.

Okay, it looks like @shanaqui is our clear winner without the need to do the draw - unless something happened over the last month? May I PayPal you my part of the challenge bounty? (I didn’t really mention this when I entered the challenge this year, but I meant it’s like the last year, that I am throwing in something into the cauldron.)

I did indeed complete the goal without ever calling non-legit – and met the ultimate goal of reading 100 pages from my backlog! I’m so happy with my progress in the last year, aaaaah.

That means I keep my £30 for being the only one remaining in the Hall of Fame!

There’s still the £15 for being in the Hall of Recognition, which only @scarabaea can claim, so we will chat and arrange the exchange of £15 I guess.
