finished my first book!

Parenting books can be pretty dry, but developmental milestones just keep coming and I like feeling prepared by the time they arrive. Beeminder’s been great for this! I enter the length of the book in pages and the date I want to finish by, and I’ll either have read the book by then or paid exorbitant fees, which is almost as good. :joy:

Anyway, I just finished What to Expect: The Second Year this way!

I skated for most of it. But there were sections that were more for reference than reading that allowed me to create a buffer now and then.

The uptick in the slope about halfway was when I realized it was possible to tell Beeminder when I wanted to finish, and that I was never going to finish in time at my original rate (which I’d set based on comfortably fitting the reading into my schedule…).

Anyway, that’s all. Just wanted to celebrate my success somewhere.

Woo-hoo! I do this all the time as well.

(For parenting books, our top recommendations are Emily Oster’s Expecting Better about pregnancy and How To Talk So Kids Will Listen which is pretty brilliant and applicable far beyond parenting.)
