New Year's Resolutions: Lock in for 2026

Here comes my second derailment for the no-excuses goal. An ARC I was looking forward to was “read now” for a limited time, so I grabbed it. I actually used the proviso I added in the challenge setup, that if I grab something during a busier time of the week, I may postpone processing for a few days, just not long enough to wiggle out of a derailment (if one is due because of this) thanks to any upcoming scheduled bump in the road. So here I am, processing and derailing a couple of days later.

I also used this occasion (derailing for a totally fair external reason) to revise my strategy outlined above about how I don’t add titles if I don’t deliberately acquire them, even though I know I’ll have to read them throughout this semester… well, this ended up not working. What happens is that I am reading and reading and reading, but this goal doesn’t get a dent. If I only add them to the count for this goal when I start, then I start, add, finish, remove, and I am back where I began… This dancing ate away the buffer I had on this goal by the time I saw that ARC to grab, so it’s clear I need to add all of those planned reads at once, even if it looks ugly and visually undoes any previous progress. I’ll just trim the visible window to deal with the ugliness and start from there, I guess.
