General impressions
- Got sick with a seasonal flu; still finalized and submitted the article that I wanted before the trip and almost finished on the conference paper that I will only have to finalize stylistically and format-wise, which I will be able even during the trip. Yay, I guess, especially since it’s at least one item less that I need to actively think about while the ball is on their side.
- Going to Germany tomorrow to look at some library stuff for the next slightly over two weeks.
- Because I introduced changes to goals ahead of this trip, and that’s what my life mostly looks like now - constant adjustments in 2-4-week chunks - I got really annoyed by the way my current setup of the metagoal works around the upcoming rate changes. So I spent this morning coding a different solution. Here’s a separate thread that describes the concept and even provides a GitHub link to try it out. No more “planned derailments” on the meta goa because it’s impossible to align the breaks.
Derailments
bookblog_wordpress
- hmm, what happened there? I just had too many beemergencies to dispatch that day, and then I decided to play an extra round of Wingspan with my husband, instead of getting back to the beemergencies. Nailed all the other ones but not this one. Basically, $5 for a Wingspan round. Totally worth it /sarcasm (or not, I truly value the opportunity to play boardgames with him)work_and_study
- the pure time-based for my work. Had to spend too much time on reservations for an upcoming trip, and then I felt my brain just starting to shut down because of the sheer number of decisions I had to make in the process. I think earlier I would just push myself through it and still get myasseyes to stare at some scholarly articles for the stipulated number of hours. But it is nice to become more attentive to such things, especially since I can’t afford to overwork myself in the light of the upcoming library visit. Also nice to have a backup tagtime-based metric to limit such occasional derailments. That one had some buffer.
New goals
- meta_days_ahead - the new meta goal, which I describe in detail in the thread linked above. Will supercede goals_days_left_od once I make sure everything works as expected over the next several days.
Completed goals
- oct2024_drafts - this worked well, since I actually got one paper to the stage that I submitted it and the other one virtually ready, requiring just a couple more rounds of stylistic revisions (in terms of real-life deadlines, still have 10+ days for that). Won’t be creating a similar goal for November, since it is mostly library visit and then a conference trip, but will definitely get back to this strategy in the future.
Changes to goals
- flat spots / lower rate spots are about to turn on across the list of the goals.
