It is known that German has a word for everything and today I would like to highlight this obscure specimen:
It is a nice metaphor for akrasia that’s common in German.
People commonly talk of overcoming your inner pig-dog meaning to beat your inner devil or your weaker self.
Wikipedia says its first recorded use was in 1932 in a speech. It is based on the “Schweinehund” (a dog used when hunting boars) which supposedly stands for “bad things” and is even older – goes back to the 19th century .
