Android app has made me sad

I have an unfortunately low spec smartphone. As such, any app I want to
install has to be carefully planned and the space required gently pried
from the grasp of other apps. The new Beeminder app seemed worth the
sacrifices, and I was pleased to secure enough space download and install
it. I was a bit disappointed that it couldn’t be moved to the SD card to be
more space efficient but the excitement of the prospect of screens full of
tracking widgets and integration with TagTime overshadowed the fact. Alas,
none of this was to be since Beeminder for Android won’t run at all without
Google Play Services, a luxury I certainly haven’t the space for. I still
want to make this work so I’m wondering if an old version of the app might
offer the most essential functionality without the Google Play Services
dependence. The functions I really care about are the widgets linked to the
quick entry predetermined data values and integration with TagTime. Does
the old version have these? And does anyone have the .apk for the old
version of the beeminder app so I can install it?

I bet we can get you an old .apk! But it won’t have TagTime
integration. It will have the widgets though.

But it might also not be too hard to compile a version that doesn’t
use Google Play Services. I’ll check with Uluc. If this matters to
anyone else, let me know!

Yeah I have the same problem, but I found that you can just pretend you are
going to download Google Play Services (click the button the beeminder app
throws up), and then don’t, and beeminder will work just fine (until next
time you start the app). Inconvenient, but still works.

I need a new phone, more than anything
