post preview: premium plans proclamation

I was trigger happy with retroratchet and got myself on the hook to
finish this 4.5 hours ago, which obviously didn’t happen. So we
coughed up $270 – blog.beeminder.com/blogdog – for this one but it
was worth it because this post is Epic!

Here’s the draft: expost.padm.us/beemium

Let me know if there’s anything we missed. Besides the parameterized
retroratchet feature and auto-ratcheting. I’m super torn about how to
treat those.

And of course there’s the argument about custom road width still
ongoing. (Maybe compromise and put it in the ultra-elite Beemium plan?
Is that just being mean?)

Thanks everyone! Especially to everyone who’s been adding premium plans already!

Question not about the new premium plans but about the new goal “archiving”
feature. Does that not apply when you’re derailed? I’ve been itching to
delete my failed snooze alarm
goalhttps://www.beeminder.com/janabeck/goals/snoozefor ages now, but
it doesn’t seem I have access to the goal settings
without rerailing…true?

Also, is there an explanation somewhere (besides this list) where you’ve
laid out how the new retrorachet feature works? I can’t find anything in
the FAQ or on the blog, although maybe that’s just my slow Friday brain.

Jana

P.S. I expressed my love for Beeminder at a recent QS meetup in Philly.
(Slides here http://jebeck.github.io/SelfTracking101/, although they’re
rather minimal.)

Hi Jana! That’s right. Here’s our thinking, to quote myself from
uservoice earlier today:

We’re not entirely sure whether settings should be available for
derailed goals but there’s a workaround for now: Unfreeze it with a
flat road and then either hit Archive or set the goal date to a week
in the future. Either way you’ll never have to actually do anything on
that goal.

A possible argument for having that hurdle: if you’ve got your head in
the sand about re-railing it might be valuable to have a good nudge
like that. Like “ok, I guess as long as I’m unfreezing this I’ll try
it again with a nice shallow yellow brick road”.

Or maybe we should just view the hassle as part of the punishment for
derailing.

As for retroratchet, we’re planning to have our next blog post be
about that. The idea is to add a vertical segment to your yellow brick
road on today’s date (violating the akrasia horizon, hence the “retro”
in retroratchet) such that you have a given number of safe days, ie,
eating up some of your safety buffer.

PS: Those slides are great! Thank you so much for that!
