Eating less meat: not quite a do-less or a whittle-down

Hey, it’s been awhile!

So I’ve got a question related to a goal I want: I want to gradually eat less meat, going all the way down to 0 by the end of July. It’s like a whittle-down and a do-less combined, basically a do-less with an automated slope downwards.

If any of you know me from Twitter you’ll know that I’ve got a rough history of attempting to go vegetarian cold turkey, getting pretty sick because diet changes mess me up really hard, and eventually being omnivorous again.

My hope is that if I use a tool I’m already using—beeminder—to try and keep track of how many days a week I eat meat and gradually drive the number down so I don’t get the rapid weight loss and immune system crash again.

So…how should I set this up? Is this a place where I just need to make a do-less goal and just manually ramp it down? Or is there a feature I’m missing because I almost always just use do-more and odometer goals?

I don’t think there’s any feature that will do this for you automatically, but if I were you I might use the visual road editor to create a road all at once whose slope gradually decreases over time.

Thanks for the rec! I flattened it out in steps every couple of weeks. I’d share the graph but it was saved in svg and this forum doesn’t allow that (and I’m feeling too lazy to quick convert).

Ooh, yeah, I (following @adamwolf’s lead) beemind “vegetarian days” as a simple do-more goal! I may or may not gradually dial that all the way to 7 days/week, ie, being an actual vegetarian. See http://blog.beeminder.com/vegdays

But I think I’d actually like this goal better as a do-less goal measuring actual meat consumption. That’s more in line with the QS First principle.
