Gratitude journaling together

  1. There was heavy rain yesterday and more overnight.
  2. One of our butcherbirds will tentatively eat cheese from my hand.
  3. “The Art of Code” presentation by Dylan Beattie from NDC { London }, January 2020. This is an hour long video about programming as art and for fun. It’s not too heavy in technology so I think non-programmers would enjoy it. I found it fascinating and delightful. The conclusion was splendid. If you don’t want to dedicate a whole hour to it, put it on while you’re doing something else and dip into it when something catches your attention.

My bike was stolen, and someone actually responded to my post on FB about it, it was dumped in their yard. That kind of thing never happens. I don’t think I’ve ever been so grateful.

Oh wow that is really wholesome to read! I’m glad for you!
Coincidentally, my main gratitude entry for today also revolves around bikes:

  • My bike fits in my car! It’s not the most spacious fit but if works  (This is noteworthy because my brother is driving a tiny Smart car and whilst you can technically fit a bike in there it is not something you actually want to do and we looked into getting him a bike rack but boy does Smart charge a premium for this)
  • My landlord is awesome
  • My flat is also very nice and I got super lucky finding it

  1. Our two younger bunnies are friends again, whew.
  2. Persona 4 Golden is now available on Steam, and I’ve bought copies for both me and the wife so we can play it “together” (i.e. individually but at the same time). We did this before with Final Fantasy VIII and IX, and it was fun, though those were replays and this is the first time Lisa’s playing P4!
  3. I finally got back to inbox zero and tab zero. shudder I hate when they get out of control.

Final Fantasy IX

Haha YT suggested me that same video a while ago  I really hope this video and others with female makers get more reach and inspire girls to try stuff like this. Also yay for awesome corsets!

  • The internet. Boy did that change my life for the better!
  • The German covid 19 tracking app that was released two days ago. It’s really really well made and is remarkably transparent about its use of data. It’s also very accessible for people with disabilities. I’d be prouder even if it had been ready earlier and not cost 20 million € :man_facepalming:
  • The power of shared expenses: 20 million € is a lot, but that’s only 25 cents per citizen. The open workshops and my FabLab also would not be possible if not for shared expenses: All the equipment is very expensive but can easily be shared with people. Or the farmers in my home village: They bought an expensive juice press an eternity ago and each year they bring their harvest and juice it and everyone gets their share of juice.
  • The recent strengthening of LGBTQ rights in the US. What a pleasant surprise!

  1. Lisa’s taking a day off and I’m taking a half-day to basically play Persona 4 all day on Thursday. Woo!
  2. I got an ARC of another upcoming book I’m really interested in! (Seven Devils by Laura Lam and Elizabeth May).
  3. Dad’s coming to do the gardening again today.

  1. Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch. This was a laugh-out-loud-on-the-bus book for me (back in the before-times when daily travelling on buses was a thing). It’s funny and clever, starting out as joyous entertainment and then developing some serious statements about humanity.
  2. The sequel is nearly here! I have it on preorder!
  3. Jeremy’s chicken risotto.
  1. More rain!
  2. Jeremy made pikelets. So nice when warm with butter.
  3. The Umbrella Academy, which I’m rewatching before season 2 is released at the end of next month.

  1. Video game day!
  2. Nice cool weather and soft rain to listen to.
  3. I finished a book in one go last night.

  1. I’m reading two fiction books at once. I used to do that all the time when I was in my teens but for such a long time I’ve been too “busy” and could barely read just one book and that only occasionally. I’m getting better now.
  2. Toast with butter.
  3. Mist in the park while I’m walking at night.

  1. I read a whole book again last night, basically on a whim.
  2. We had a lie-in since my wife has the day off today as well.
  3. I buy books for random people on Twitter sometimes, and today someone who picked it up more than returned the favour by buying me a book from my wishlist. :blue_heart::blue_heart::blue_heart:

  1. Rain again! I never get tired of it.
  2. I stayed in bed till midday, reading and sleeping.
  3. Jeremy made sausage rolls.
  1. The book about books I bought last week arrived today, on my book buying day. Nice timing.
  2. Lisa’s about to make banana bread!
  3. She’s been practising her tailoring by making one of my teddy bears a snazzy waistcoat.
  1. It did not rain last night which is excellent because I had left the kitchen recycling bin outside and it’s made of cardboard.
  2. There’s a small tree growing in my garden that has large, soft, flexible leaves that are strong enough to be used as once-off cleaning cloths for the cat’s litter tray or for anything else that gets cleaned in the garden. I love being able to harvest disposable wipes and throw them back into the garden to decompose.
  3. Evolution of Music - Pentatonix - five singers singing excerpts from Western music from the 11th century onwards.

  1. 4head. It only really helps for me if it’s a tension headache, but most of mine are. It’s making this weekend just about bearable instead of too awful to deal with.
  2. A Habitica challenge with bitesize cleaning tasks throughout the week. Never too much to do at once, so I’m staying on top of it.
  3. Tongues heal really fast. I bit my tongue last night, but it’s already feeling better. Still a bit raw (and yet strangely numb at the same time?) but not nearly as bad as it was last night.

Oh I want this! Which one is it?

  1. This brief video of Australian magpies bickering.
  2. Walking through a dark section of the park tonight and seeing the stars brighter than usual.
  3. I’m getting into a solid routine of washing the dishes twice a day and it makes the kitchen so pleasant to use!

@alys: Goblins Anonymous, run by MSR! It’s not super-intensive, so it’s more for upkeep than getting things into shape, but it’s provided a good checklist for some stuff I forget. Including changing the bedsheets.

  1. I bathed yesterday and again today and it really does help with the tension headaches.
  2. Having a water temperature thermometer has been a saving grace. Technically 40°C is what one should try to replicate the study on the effects on depression, but 39°C is pretty close and yet way more bearable for me and does not make me dizzy.
  3. Watching old episodes of Sewing Bee with Lisa each evening. :blue_heart: I’m back to work on finishing 2019’s data visualisation project while we watch!

  1. My current avatar scene in the StudyBunny focus timer app, featuring many pets!
  2. My previous scene with animated rain (although that’s a still screenshot alas).
  3. My new Beeminder goal that tracks how much time I record in StudyBunny. I use SB only for dedicated time on specific types of tasks, so tracking this will (I hope!) ensure that I’m productive for a decent proportion of each day.

Awww, it’s a party!

My stuff for the day:

  1. The Kind Words game, which has so far (in my experience of it) been universally full of people sharing kind advice and being good to each other.
  2. I just got my download link for Cat Sebastian’s new book!
  3. A support person at Waterstones just more than fixed my problems with my order with a very generous apology and compensation.
