Gratitude journaling together

  • i’m grateful that today was a nice, informative, packed yet relaxed last full vacation day.
  • self-gratitude: i’m grateful i managed to write and send all the postcards i wanted to today. (would have time also tomorrow, but it’s nice not having to think about that anymore!)
  • i’m grateful we don’t have to get up earlier than usual tomorrow. whenever we had the ferry transits or the flight from home we had to be up ridiculously or significantly earlier than “normal” / usual, but the flight home tomorrow is in the early evening, so we’re just doing some chill vacationing in the morning which thankfully does not require being awake at 3 or 5 a.m.! :D

  1. A bus driver let me on the bus even though my card had run out of money.
  2. The main server at a carvery gave me free pork crackling with my order and then another server added a second piece with a conspiratorial smile.
  3. SGQ: I added a “did not finish” marker to my books spreadsheet, so now books that I didn’t enjoy don’t keep staring at me from the “started” view.

  1. I was first on the surgery list.
  2. I was home before 11am, even. Barely any effect on my op from the junior doctors’ strike (I was on the consultant’s list anyway).
  3. Junk food tonight, to celebrate me being brave.

  • private gratitude (i kind of feel like i should keyword these with [location] or [relevant noun] or [some verb] or [maybe a whole phrase], to remember them if i ever read back on a private gratitude, but chances are i wouldn’t find anything fitting that leaves everyone else clueless while helping me remember the whole situations weeks, months, years later XD)
  • i’m super grateful that my flatmate handled all the flight delay things. turns out we’re going home not at 17.30 as planned, not at 19.45 and not at 1 a.m., but at 7 a.m. (probably), and now shortly after midnight we’re finally chilling in our free hotel room.
  • self-gratitude: i’m grateful that this immense delay doesn’t infinitely annoy me and thus doesn’t kill my mood. i didn’t have any plans for the night anyway, and luckily i took friday off work as well, so it’s a very bearable inconvenience that i’ll file under “not great, but overall fine and fun new experiences that i don’t mind happening to me occasionally under these circumstances”.

  1. Not too much pain this morning!
  2. My dad thought to lend me one of his walking sticks in case my leg swelled up and made mobility difficult. I thought he was overreacting, since I wasn’t warned that might happen, but nope. Sensible man, he is.
  3. Had a great idea for Lisa’s Christmas presents. I know, I know, it’s only July – but I buy them a present for each day of December (not usually anything big or fancy, I hasten to add), and it takes time to assemble that many presents. I’ve got a great start here with two items bought already, two on the way, and an idea for something to do on one of those days.

  1. Object Impermanence by Margery Bayne. Short stories that I’m enjoying a lot.
  2. I bought wooden toothbrushes from The Toothbrush Project and they included a free one because my order was delayed a couple of days.
  3. SGQ: I did the washing up twice today so tomorrow morning will be more restful.

  • self-gratitude: i’m grateful i did end up with 2-3 hours of sleep last night. i had planned on just staying awake, but then the bed was so warm and comfy and i knew my friend would wake me in time (which he did), that i just fully lied down and fell asleep almost instantly.
  • i’m grateful i’m finally at home again. the trip was amazing and being abroad and on vacation is amazing, but being home again is amazing as well.
  • i’m grateful that sharing some emotions with my mother made us have nice and civil conversations tonight and not fight. honestly even more impressive considering we were both pretty sleep deprived, lol.

  3. SGQ: I wrapped a birthday present early so that I won’t need to do it at the last minute.

  1. I think today’s the last day I’ll need a walking stick. Maybe just for safety tomorrow.
  2. Postcrossing’s 18th birthday was yesterday. :astonished:
  3. I decided to give Lisa the Christmas present early, because I could use a pick-me-up. So now I can tell you all that I got one of these, so that in our pressed-for-space little flat, we can do big puzzles and have a way to safely pack them away and store them half-done. Previously we had to have a craft table out, which would keep on getting in the way, so we had to do puzzles all at once over just a couple of days. There are much fancier versions in wood and so on with lots of little drawers for sorting puzzle pieces etc, but this is a proof of concept and we can think about a bigger one later.

  • i’m grateful i had a relaxed day today while still getting done quite a bit. i washed two loads of laundry, sent off a few mails that were due, set up a few new beeminder tasks (probably too many at once, but my language learning itch is back hard after this vacation, and also most of the new goals have an initial 7-day-leeway, so it should be well manageable), put up new bedsheets, did some music-playlist-upkeeping … not to forget the post-wake-up-language practice sessions and probably some other things that are escaping my mind right now.
  • i’m grateful i don’t have any fixed commitments for tomorrow either. there’s stuff i want to do/should do, again (maybe additional laundry if the current ones are dry already; answering more messages; writing up my monthly goals in my bullet journal; etc.), but nothing too tedious / nothing that would put me in a horrifying place if not everything gets done tomorrow. (which is a great place to be, especially considering the current heat wave we’re experiencing )
  • self-gratitude: i’m grateful my conversations with my mother today didn’t end in a fight. she’s very exhausting these days, because of [emotions], and it’s a lot to deal with, especially when i was looking forward to an uneventful relaxing day by myself, mostly … but being in my current pretty stressfree position also has the perk that dedicating an hour or two of my time to her makes me less angry (because that time isn’t taken away from “time i should be productive in but will end up procrastinating instead, to find some sanity again”).

  1. Next-day delivery. Sometimes it’s completely unnecessary, but sometimes it brings essentials. Today I’m grateful it exists because the discharge nurse gave me the wrong size of dressing (way too small), and no pharmacies have large enough bandages in stock. Thank you, internet!
  2. Online communities that are helpful and supportive.
  3. My new desk setup, which seems to be much more comfortable for my elbow.

  • self-gratitude: i’m grateful i went to the family-ish dinner tonight despite the heat and me not really feeling like it when i was on the way there.
  • i’m grateful my cousins complimented my haircut. it’s not “new” for me anymore, so it feels extra nice when people comment positively on it, because there’s the added “surprise” factor of “oh yeah you haven’t seen this yet, i almost forgot because i already got used to it myself.”
  • i’m grateful my first day back at work today was short and mostly chill. it was absolutely hectic and busy, but it wasn’t stressful or annoying, which is ideal!
