- Plans for this evening to do new content on FFXIV with a friend.
- Dinner with my parents this weekend.
- It’s raining and I’m about to have some time to curl up and listen to it while I read.
Hi everyone! It’s been a while. Today I’m grateful that:
- my brother is able to avail of good quality and relatively convenient healthcare
- I have friends in stats and data science who help me keep me moving forward with learning when I would otherwise get stagnant
- I can recognize the even my mixture of skills and experiences that have never resulted in recognized accomplishments or material gain can still have a lot of value
- SGQ: I pushed hard and made sure to finish up & put a bow on some housework I promised a friend, repinning their locks, before the weekend.
- My mother-in-law and some of her family were able to drive up to visit us to celebrate my wife’s birthday last night and we had a very nice time.
- The party we threw a few days prior for local friends went swimmingly, a-heh, because it was a pool party and also went very well.
- self-gratitude: i’m grateful that i managed to get four beeminder goals out of the red this morning before going into work.
- self-gratitude: i’m grateful i tried my best with regards to [thing].
- self-gratitude: i’m grateful i managed to basically finish a project at work today.
- Our government’s sick leave policy, which allows us to take three consecutive days of sick leave without any proof from a doctor. It’s a blessing for minor illnesses.
- Friendly possums.
- Cheese on toast.
- My gastroenterology appointment went very well, with no changes to my medication required. Whew.
- Trousers! I’ve had to wear loose shorts and skirts for a few days because the dressing on my surgery site was quite bulky, but now it’s quite flat and I can wear trousers. I missed trousers.
- Some stuff around the house should finally be fixed this week, after three years. Unless the electrician doesn’t show up (again), but… we’ll see.
- i’m grateful for a great dinner.
- i’m grateful today’s work day didn’t feel overly long or tedious.
- self-gratitude: relatively early bedtime, once again.
- Jeremy made cake for no reason.
- SGQ: I went to bed early last night even though I was tempted to stay up to watch another hour of TV.
- I woke early and felt reasonably rested.
- A friend whose computer died is now back online and thus can game with us again.
- Tomorrow, I’m allowed to shower again!
- A friend liked a gift.
- i’m greatful that i live in a great city.
- i’m grateful for my friends.
- self-gratitude: i’m grateful that i survived the day at work today and didn’t even handle it all too badly, i think, despite it being a “very stress, such annoyance, much infuriate” kind of day.
- Planning some time off, just for me, no medical reasons!
- Enjoying the Bookly app right now… finding it useful that it guesses how long I’ll take to finish a book, and to be able to set a goal date and have it suggest how much I need to read each day to meet the goal, for example. Plus, I’m taking part in one of their “readathon” competitions, which gives you a chance to win some book vouchers…
- Today I get to shower. Why yes, I have been counting down the days.
- The “Leverage: Redemption” episode The Belly of the Beast Job. I think it’s my most favourite.
- Praise from my manager.
- SGQ: I turned down the offer of a lift so that I had to do a half hour walk (which turned out to be quite pleasant).
- Claire made Snickers Cake (Snickers is a peanut and chocolate snack bar, in this case chopped up small and built into a delicious cake)
- Planted three new trees
- Test-fit of new curtains for the bedroom went well (for the last several months we’ve been making do with cardboard!)
- Financial aid award confirmed for the upcoming academic year! Woo (I’ve been paying tuition directly out of pocket for classes for so long that I’m )
- Though the usual English conversation meeting was cancelled, I was able to help one of the Japanese pharmacy science students with her speech contest entry, and she was the regional winner and is going to give her speech in Tokyo two weekends from now!
- (Some) local language learning group peeps are interested in doing Saturday AM co-studying at the library
- I’ve been learning so much from my “incremental progress” Beeminder goals, even when I end up staying up late to meet all of them
- OneDrive sync on Linux is actually freaking working, and it looks like I don’t have to configure anything more
- I played with some dogs.
- I feel relaxed this morning.
- SGQ: My rate improvement goal has gotten all my goals to the state where I am happy with them.
-
self-gratitude: i’m grateful i looked up how many rules the password game has, after failing at it once again pretty far along, due to an unintended mistake on my part. turns out my intuition was correct and the rule i’d already seen at that time was indeed the last one! yes, there is a last one, but it takes ages to get there! i did eventually finish the whole game, once, successfully, but not after having failed multiple times for various reasons:
- making a very stupid, unintended mistake
(more reasons behind the spoiler tags below; 1 is probably not really spoiler-worthy, but i guess gives general vibes of the game, the last 3 give heavy hints about one specific rule.) -
giving up because a given random rule was or at least seemed too complicated / impossible for me at the time
-
letting paul starve (only once, okay!)
-
overfeeding paul (only once, okay!)
-
slaying paul (not more than twice, i swear!) [i don’t actually remember if it happened before today already ]
- making a very stupid, unintended mistake
-
i’m grateful today was relatively chill at work.
-
i’m grateful for the extended walk i took after work.
-
Got a new book from library.
-
Boss as a service.
-
Having a great dog
- self-gratitude: i’m grateful that i did the minorest thing to keep a goodbye from escalating into a horrible argument.
- i’m grateful i asked for clarification about the exact plans of tomorrow’s birthday party.
- i’m grateful i’m still young and healthy.
Is there a recipe?
Congrats on that!
- Slightly melty chocolate – definitely not liquid, just a little gooey.
- Dinner with my parents and Simone.
- Yorkshire puddings, not quite risen, so a little bit gooey/stodgy. Yes, there are certain textures I’m very fond of, how did you guess?
