  1. Appointment with the sleep clinic for Lisa!
  2. I was reminded of the existence of Serial Reader. I always end up asking for more issues in a day, because it only takes me 5 minutes to read an issue (they’re meant to take 15 minutes ish, but I’m a fast reader), but it’s a nice way to squeeze more reading into my day almost without feeling like I’m sitting down to read. Looks like you can now add in epubs you own, so I sense I might be doing this with a bunch of classic mysteries – for now, I’m reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles (I’ve read way less Agatha Christie than you’d guess given my interests).
  3. Pizza party with my sister this evening.

  1. Bookshop.org have a new programme called Bookloop which allows you to sell back books in good condition. So instead of taking the recent batch to donate to charity (who don’t always know quite what to do with e.g. my science books), I’ve valued and boxed up the books I’ve read recently and looks like I’ll get £26 store credit on bookshop.org for the 10 I’m sending them now (at no further cost to me; they pay for the postage, and I’m re-using a box that was used to… send me books).
It’s nothing like what I paid for them of course, but it’s something, and the books will be resold to benefit authors via a partnership with the Society of Authors – or if not resold, then responsibly donated. It’s a neat scheme, and I get back some of the money I spent for more books. (No doubt why it’s called Bookloop.)
  2. Finished The Mysterious Affair at Styles… and started on The Murder on the Links. Honestly they’re very typical of the period; I think part of Christie’s success was just sheer volume, rather than greater craftsmanship.
  3. No plans today.

  2. Biscuit seems okay despite having flung herself from a height that was scary to see.
  3. Dad’s subscription to Which, and being allowed to use it. Planning a big purchase, probably, and having the reviews there is very helpful.

  1. Started the last of The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman. These books are amongst the best I’ve ever read for creating a whistful, longing, feeling for a beautiful but flawed world. I re-read Rebecca the other month, and there’s something of the same in there.
  2. How much more powerful torches are than in my youth. These LED bulbs make an astonishing difference. (I just looked it up - 8x more efficient at converting electricity to visible light, said a random web page)
  3. Early flights with my new FPV drone are a success - I didn’t get vertigo, which I was a bit worried I might!

I think part of Christie’s success was just sheer volume, rather than greater craftsmanship.

@shanaqui I read the other day she was the best selling author ever - something like 2 billion books sold. Quite astonishing.
