Reminder settings on /reminders page are not saved

URL: https://www.beeminder.com/reminders/

Summary: When attempting to disable iOS push notifications on the Reminders settings page, the changes do not persist after saving. Upon reloading the page, the checkboxes for the disabled iOS notifications are selected again, indicating the change was not saved to the database.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Navigate to the Reminders settings page: beeminder .

  2. Locate any goal that currently has an iOS push notification enabled (i.e., the checkbox under the “iOS” column is ticked).

  3. Uncheck one or more checkboxes under the “iOS” column to disable the corresponding reminders.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Save Changes” button.

  5. Wait for the confirmation that settings have been saved.

  6. Refresh the page (or navigate away and return).

Expected Result: The checkboxes that were unchecked in Step 3 should remain unchecked, reflecting the saved change to the user’s notification preferences.

Actual Result: After the page reloads, the checkboxes that were unchecked in Step 3 are checked again. The changes to the iOS notification settings were not saved.

Similarly there is no spot in the iOS app to disable/enable these notifications in general for the app or individually per goal. One can disable notifications (including the banner) via the iOS Settings app, however.

It should be possible to allow fine grain control - individual push settings per goal, for alerts as well as for deadlines.

There is a spot for configuring the deadlines and alerts per goal from within the iOS app.

I was not able to reproduce this. Safari was used from macOS and the iOS checkboxes indicating checked-receive notifications retained their checked/unchecked state upon saving. Furthermore, the notification was not received (on the iOS device) for the goal where the box was unchecked.

Oh interesting. The issue persists for me on both IOS and Mac. It will look like it has saved for a while but then when I go back into the goal list the IOS reminder checkboxes are re-checked.

It worked right away for me as expected as previously described. I tried again with a longer period between disabling the push reminder for a particular goal and when I would be informed about it (several hours).
Sure enough the notification came through and checking the website showed the box checked.

I would guess this feature/setting or the collaboration between app and backend could benefit from more attention.

The two sound out of sync and for the user apparently there is no way to reliably disable such a notification for a goal.
