Good question! The way to do that is to use the “retroratchet” button to remove the safety buffer you accumulated. There’s also a premium feature to automatically do that every day but see how it goes manually at first! We actually think it’s better to let safety buffer accumulate. That’s part of the beauty of Beeminder is that it enforces an overall average and gives you a ton of flexibility in how you meet that average.
Keep letting us know how it feels though. Highly valuable for us to get questions like this so we can figure out how to make Beeminder less confusing!
Thanks for reply, but 16$ / month for this feature is to much for me.
You don’t need to pay to retrorachet!
@zedmango auto trim is in premium account.
That’s to do it automatically, but you can always retrorachet manually.
@dreev hi. When I tred today retroratchet my todo Gola than I had “Goal was updated” notification and nothing changed. Could you help me please?
Hmm, yeah, I see it; you want +3 to be due today, and I can see that it only wants you to have done +2. Is that right?
Yes. That right
I’m not actually sure why retroratchet isn’t doing that, but I’ll see if I can find out.
Something new?
What’s the situation? How many are you supposed to do each day?
My goal is 3 and I should daily min. 3 tasks do.
Talk like Yoda you do.
How many had you done when you retroracheted and what did it say after?
@zedmango sorry for my English. I working about it So retrorachet reset time but no value. For example:
1.02. - first day (buffer 0). I planned eat min. 2500 cal. I ate 2700 cal.
2.02. In system is 2300 cal because I ate 200 cal to much at 1.02. I want 2500 too. I press retrorachet (buffer) but is still 2300.
That’s correct - retrorachet does not reset your buffer like that. It doesn’t really apply to calorie goals in that way. @dreev
No worries - I know it is difficult to learn a new language! I hope I did not offend you with the Yoda comment.
Retrorachet basically removes extra buffer equal to the amount you planned for some number of days.
So suppose you ate 2000 calories instead of 2500 calories for 5 days. You then have an extra 2500 calorie buffer (500 x 5) so now it tells you that you can eat 5000 calories.
You could retrorachet 1 day’s worth (2500 calories) bringing you back to 2500.
But I must eat more I must eat daily 2500 calories or more. So Beeminder should daily check if I ate 2500 calories or more. I don’t need a time or value buffer
Then I should have written:
So suppose you ate 3000 calories instead of 2500 calories for 5 days. You then have an extra 2500 calorie buffer (500 x 5) so now it tells you that you only need 0 calories on the 6th day.
You could retrorachet 1 day’s worth (2500 calories) bringing you back to 2500.
