- Becoming friendly (or even friends?) with my cousin. I don’t think Grandma would have predicted that being an outcome of her funeral.
- Bracket City is a fun browser guessing-game.
- My sister’s covering my afternoon inbox slot so I can work on my assignments.

- This video of adult elephants reacting to an earthquake at San Diego zoo: https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/14/us/video/san-diego-earthquake-video-zoo-elephants-digvid Honestly I have days when I think the AGIs should go ahead and zap all the humans, and instead keep the space for elephants. Maybe the whales get to keep the oceans, too.
- My chess is wobbly, but currently ok - I’m trying to change my PoV to “the game is to spot the opponent’s best move” rather than “the game is to come up with a clever move of my own”, because if I do the second and not the first, I fall flat on my face.
- Managed to get lxc up and running Windows VMs on my Linux machine, for those annoying-but-important things that still require Windows.

- Dad’s probably going to run an ethernet cable to me to solve my internet problems.
- Dad making me lunch and texting me stupid stuff like “Your sandwich order is ready to collect.”
- My British Library Crime Classics subscription brings me the latest book from their series every month, and usually includes some goodies like a bookmark and a poster or pencil or something similar. This month my bookmark was bent, so I sent them a sad email telling them I collect the bookmarks and sadly mine was bent, and could I pay postage to receive a spare? “We’ll send you a new one,” they replied. This is what I received:

- Lisa’s been working really hard on getting the flat tidy and ready for us to move.
- I discovered I have store credit left over on Bookshop.org, and ordered myself some books I’m interested in on a whim.
- Bookshop.org’s support is lightning-fast; I got a response to an email within seven minutes.

- My parents and Lisa for doing proofreading for me, and handling me being an absolute basket case about my assignments.
- My new books arrived at the flat today, and me and Lisa will arrange an exchange in town later after a flat viewing.
- Dad ran an ethernet cable to me for more stable internet.

- New books.
- Assignments are handed in.
- I have an office chair now at my desk at my parents’ house – Dad went halfsies on it with me, since he’ll keep it for his desk after I leave, and we were randomly charged £30 less than we should’ve been when buying it. Not going to argue with a random sale!

- Have been working on some chess visualisation exercises, trying to solve (very simple!) puzzles in my head with no board - not as hard as I feared!
- Had to dig a long trench to lay an electric cable - also not as hard as I feared.
- We seem to have solved the slow leak in the heating - quite hard, but is at least done now.

My cat was waiting in the window for me when I got home this evening.

- The new crafting/gathering content in FFXIV is a lot of fun, and nice to do in between other tasks (e.g. “do two missions then handle ten emails in my inbox, repeat until finished”). Such dopamine!
- Starting to relax a bit and read again.
- The office chair helps a lot.

- Had the foresight to buy all three of the light novels in the series I’m reading. Finished one, can go straight on to the next!
- Listening to music I liked as a teenager and sometimes I’m meh on it and sometimes it’s still pretty awesome. Nightwish’s Century Child album is still pretty great.
- Dad keeping up with the garden at our flat until we move.

- Pretty quiet weekend.
- A change in the soap I use has done wonders for the dry skin I’m prone to on my hands!
- Got an ARC of a much-anticipated novel: A Letter from the Lonesome Shore, by Sylvie Cathrall. I’m looking forward to reading it so much.

- My throat was really sore last night but it’s a bit better today. And the remaining nagging owwie is the perfect excuse to go get (or ask someone to get) the peach and raspberry throat sweets I like…
- Lots of reading yesterday, very satisfying.
- I managed to fix whatever the matter was with the physical page turn buttons and the Kindle app on my Onyx Boox Go Color 7 ereader. It required a factory reset, but whatever, it got fixed!

- Robert Jackson Bennett’s A Drop of Corruption was just as good as The Tainted Cup and a very satisfying (and very absorbing) read.
- It’s very warm and sunny here, but this room is north-facing, and currently catching a cooling breeze, so it’s fairly pleasant.
- Lisa brought my fancy Simba Hybrid pillow from the flat, so my neck is happier. Sorry, childhood bed, but I’m not 15 anymore, not even 25, and I’m creaking at the hinges!

- Managed to get back into posting to Litsy. It’s nice to have that constant stream of interaction about books.
- Arranged a fairly chilled out day for myself. Still feel like I need it after the mad scramble to get my assignments written.
- Dad keeps making all my favourite meals.

- A peaceful weekend planned. I seem to be grateful for that every week, but why not?
- Cooler weather today.
- Dad keeps reminding me to hydrate, making me lunch, and prompting me to eat yoghurt. He’s determined not to let me derail on Beeminder while I’m under his eye.

- Looots of reading over the weekend.
- The inbox looked daunting this morning, but it just took breaking it down into bitesize chunks and I got through it quite well.
- There is leftover chocolate cake…

- There’s going to be an absolutely gorgeous-sounding illustrated edition of Marie Brennan’s Lady Trent books. Looky! I have to check my budget to see if I can pledge for it, but I really really want to. It’s exciting that it even exists, though, and I’m grateful that I think it’s likely I can afford it!
- I think my 24-hour-long headache is actually letting up now.
- People to complain with when other people are wrong on the internet.
- My headache has gone.
- My dad fussed over me when I was quite ill last night.
- Finding some fun new music related to bands I loved as a teenager. Listening to Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation again has led me to try Eye of Melian, Exit Eden and more. Especially enjoying Exit Eden’s covers of pop songs. Lady Gaga as symphonic metal is quite a fun transformation, and this song is stuck in my head even though I don’t know the original.
