Gratitude journaling together

  1. I made an error at work when configuring something for a client but before the change went live, the error was noticed and reported to me by a script I’d previously written to check for that kind of error. Failuresuccess!
  2. Tuna and corn patties for dinner.
  3. I walked over a new route and found several pretty trees.
  1. Studying. <3
  2. Private insurance. I love the NHS dearly, but provisions for mental health care vary so widely… but my wife’s insurance has got me covered.
  3. My stricter work/life separation seems to be working out well.
  1. Yesterday was a good day.
  2. I love how spring onions will regrow after you’ve cut their tops off, even long after they’ve been pulled out of the ground. I keep a crop in my kitchen in some water.
  3. I was walking later than usual last night and saw Orion rise.

  1. The sound of rain against the windows.
  2. Studying, still! I am so glad I have this opportunity again.
  3. My World Postcard Day postcards are arriving and giving people joy.
  1. Housesitting for a night at a nice house with two dogs.
  2. I had a LONG bath with reading and games on my tablet.
  3. I love that feeling of weight returning that you get if you stay in the bath as the water drains out.

  1. I understood functional groups waaaay better during today’s studying than I ever did before. Repetition works!
  2. I managed to get some cross-stitch done today.
  3. Hades is still a lot of fun.

  1. Yesterday’s bath was upgraded from a cup of tea to red wine.
  2. I finished putting all my purchased eBook files into my NIFTY AS HECK ebook/audiobook spreadsheet.
  3. I found only two duplicate purchases, both from authors that I’m happy to support (KJ Charles and Tansy Rayner Roberts).

  1. Today’s studying included van der Waals’ forces, and I don’t know if it’s (again) repetition from my previous degree or what, but I understood it perfectly today!
  2. First appointment made for cognitive behavioural therapy… this week!
  3. Managed to book in for a flu shot despite everywhere being crammed full. Bit weird to be going to Tesco for my vital vaccination because my GP surgery is booked until mid-November, but OK then!

  1. I like how in markdown, when you want a numbered list like this, you can put 1. at the start of every entry and markdown displays the appropriate numbers.
  2. I’ve been using a “focus list” as a mini task list. I set a timer using Forest and/or StudyBunny for two hours, and for that entire time I can do only the things in the focus list, ideally in the predefined order. They can include fun things! It’s helping me avoid distractions.
  3. Our garden has a third scrub turkey, an adult male, enthusiastically creating a mound.

  1. My stamps and postcards from the Royal Mail finally arrived! I got to send one today.
  2. Ginger beer.
  3. I’ve been reading a lot in the last couple of days! (Thanks, Beeminder!)
  1. My favourite part of my morning routine: on any days when I’ll be leaving the house at any time, then after my shower I fully prepare for leaving by packing my bag and stacking things that I’ll need to wear in an pile in the reverse order I will put them on (hat, sunglasses, sunshirt, socks, etc). This means that when I think “omg, I need to leave in 5 minutes to catch that bus!” then I can sit around for another 4 minutes and still be out of the house in time. It brings me joy every time that’s useful.
  2. Jeremy has started making sushi. His first attempt was nice and I can tell that future ones will be better - that’s his pattern with making food.
  3. This tweet from Jeremy featuring one of the ringtail possums who lives our garden

  1. Forum discussions with other people on my course.
  2. My flu shot didn’t make my arm too sore this year!
  3. New books! (I know, I know, that happens so often.)
  1. I had a problem with my landline phone and my ISP was helpful, friendly, and fast. Aussie Broadband are great.
  2. Our cat kept going back to my bed all day yesterday because she knows she’ll get pats there.
  3. I managed to get to bed reasonably early last night.
  1. Time-and-a-half for some tedious work, w00t.
  2. Fit a bath into my busy day and that was a very good plan. (It’s @alys’ fault for mentioning having a bath! I started craving one.) It was not a long bath, but it was very nice.
  3. Found a good Youtube video that unpacks some concepts I was struggling with for epidemiology.

  3. The Nobel prize for CRISPR! I’ve been predicting it for a while.

  1. Jeremy has tidied the shelves in our computer/video-watching room and set up a nice background for when he’s on a webcam. It looks lovely.
  2. I walked to the nearest shopping centre last night to get a new shaver when Jeremy’s broke half way though shaving his head, and when I returned he had a “Thank-You Salad” waiting for me. (He makes good salads.)
  3. He managed to get the broken shaver to work again! At roughly the same time I arrived at the shopping centre. How we laughed. It was a good walk anyway.
  1. Hades is still so good! Even though ostensibly I’m doing the same thing over and over, the ride is always a little different.
  2. New standing desk will probably solve some of my problems and let me defer getting a new laptop.
  3. Lots of new plants for our garden, from my mother.
  1. I managed to get to bed early last night. It’s difficult so this was an achievement!
  2. A friend helped me in a discussion.
  3. This comic about avoiding damaging bash errors but also this important information. I was not aware of much of this!
