- The Good Place. I’ve just started my third time through (it will be the second for the final season). The first season is so fun, especially when you know what’s coming.
- Cheese and salmon on biscuits for lunch yesterday.
- Weekends.
- Pork and peanut spicy noodles.
- @mary’s pretty awesome.
- Having a Beeminder setup that lets me easily say “nope, not today” when I’m not in the right headspace.
- “OB Finest” Specialty Crackers. They are so tasty and have a crunchy and chewy texture.
- I was taught how to make tumeric milk drink that I love.
- I’ve been using taskwarrior (a CLI task management program) for long enough now that I remember the task ID numbers for my frequently updated large tasks.
- Marmalade on toast for breakfast.
- Rain for the first time in weeks!
- The Narnia Chronicles audio books. I mentioned them before (back in May, wow) but I’ve finished them now (I took a long time to get through The Last Battle, as usual since I see it as sad). The voice actors were all magnificent and the stories benefited from them.
- Surpassing social anxiety issues and having quick conversations with a few strangers last night.
- Walking down my small town and feeling that I own this town, that I know every block upside down.
- Dressing with cool clothes last night and getting positive comments from my neighbor about it.
- Finished a project I was working on for a while.
- Managed to do someone a favour, yay.
- Got paid!
- Australia’s electoral system. I was reminded of how nice it is by this great thread from Paul Fenwick.
- Watching the male scrub turkey test (I assume) the temperature of his mound by putting his beak into it and by crouching over it with his wings spread out. Although why he’s also doing that to the fresh dirt he’s kicking onto it is a bit mystifying. Is he capable of knowing how much dirt to add based on the temperature of both dirt and mound?! The level of instinctive behaviour coded into (I assume) their DNA is astonishing. How does that even work??
- I spent a couple of hours in the garden repairing turkey-induced damage this morning instead of ignoring it or leaving it till it was unrepairable (pleased about my reaction, not so much about the damage, but turkeys are still great).
@alys I have read a couple of books about bird intelligence and whether their behaviours are genetic or learned – would you like me to look up the titles for you? Iirc they were readable and pop-sciency, not technical.
- My dad is so keen on making our garden lovely.
- My rabbits like sultanas SO much.
- Still marvelling over having got Beeminder to work for me when it comes to reading. (Beeminder blog post in the works for that! I know it’s a momentous occasion, for those who have followed my experiments with it in the forum for the last 3 years.)
I would love that, thank you!
- This quote from Hobgoblin Boots by Tansy Rayner Roberts: “The Faerie Quene sent a horde of vampyre aelves to punish the thoughtless mortals with their wild magic, their intense sexual charisma, and their powerful commitment to pretentious spelling choices.”
- Our cat wanting my attention so badly she screamed for me to get out of the bath.
- After avoiding my tax returns for three years (a truely impressive display of procrastination), I have now collected almost all the details I need for the oldest one and made an appointment with a tax agent who seems nice!
@alys So probably the one I’m thinking of is The Genius of Birds by Jennifer Ackerman.
(Yeah, it was that quick for me to look up. Having-a-book-blog++)
- Habitica folks on a Discord who helped me work through a panic.
- Portal Bookshop ordered me a Welsh pride flag (that is not Portal Bookshop, just a link to see the flag – they specially ordered it for me, but if anyone else wants one, just email or tweet to them) and it is getting posted to me tomorrow, so I will be able to pridefully support the boys when they play France on the 24th.
- Soon there will be rugby again.
- I have detected a bug from Beeminder. That makes me feel grateful to be able to contribute in a tiny tiny way to this awesome team
- I have realized that my beanie matches my shirt and started wearing it at home with a shirt I did somewhat undervalue and an earing. Feeling cute
- I had a job interview yesterday for a barista position in a company I love. I have been anxious for an answer (they told me they would answer today) so I called them and they told me to wait until Monday. Let’s see how that goes, but happy for the process overall!
Thank you! I have the sample on my Kindle app and it’s looking great so far.
- I wanted to find one thing in the pigsty that I like to call my bedroom and ended up doing two hours of tidying.
- At work during the week, a security risk that I identified with a person’s plan caused them to change their plan, and without being annoyed.
- Stellarium. It’s easier to use than other phone star map apps and has a lot of nifty features that I’ve only just started exploring, most notably including constellations from a variety of cultures.
- A friend gave me some good advice about the whole “worry time” thing my therapist is making me do.
- Autumn weather!
- Rereading a childhood favourite. Still great! (The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff.)
I love that book!!! It was one of my all-time favourites as a child - I read it so many times and still remember being in the school library reading it standing up at the shelf. I’m so impressed by how it holds up on re-reads now. The chase scenes for example are truly gripping for me.
- That ^^
- There’s a nice sushi place next to the supermarket that I walk to some nights.
- Amazon’s sample feature for their Kindle books.
- My therapy homework is… useful?? I had always discarded the idea in the past but I think I was wrong.
- Had a nice hot bath today.
- I think I am finally close to resolving Achilles and Patroclus’ storyline in Hades, and I am excited for them to see each other again.
- I woke up early and have a head start on the day.
- Yoghurt with sliced banana for breakfast.
- Yesss Achilles can go see Patroclus now in Hades. AND I reunited Chaos and Nyx. AND Zagreus is now dating Thanatos. This game is so good.
- Medication that should make me feel better!
- Bellowhead reunion concert!!! (Okay, it’s one-time only and it’s an online concert, but they are such good performers, and the album they’re performing is great.)
- Jeremy was away for a week so I had the house to myself. I like time alone so it was a pleasant interlude.
- Interesting opportunity via LSHTM.
- FINALLY have access to the software I need to use for biostatistics.
- Had a bath again today.
