- Something that could’ve been horrible wasn’t so bad.
- Tomorrow I will start my new course of high-intensity CBT, and here’s hoping it will help with my health anxiety this time.
- The Smiling Mind mindfulness app. It’s by a not-for-profit company so all the mindfulness programs are free (but you can donate). I’m finding it very helpful.
- The TV series Superstore. It’s really growing on me.
- I was given some ginger chocolate by the people I was housesitting for.

- Spicy chicken wings.
- Learning some interesting stuff from my current book, e.g. about the Spanish Forger, whose work is now often more valuable than real medieval art. That’s the power of a good story, I guess!
- Cleared my evening to just play FFXV and, while driving around, read the aforementioned book. It was nice.
- Finally found a good source for something I wanted to include in my essay.
- Baby huntsman spiders are living in the compost bin that we use for cat litter. (I like spiders, especialy huntsmans).
- K.J. Charles releases short stories for free as additions to her series and an epilogue for A Charm of Magpies is there now.
- Three butcherbirds took food from my hand today.

- Uncooked rolled oats with sultanas and cold milk for breakfast. I love the mixtures of tastes and textures.
- Jeremy has been rating the teas that I brew for him so that we can find the ones he likes best. He’s chosen a scale of 1 to 10. Below are his descriptions for the lower end.
- 5 average
- 4 okay but a bit off
- 3 blah - would not want to drink a 3 or below.
- 2 definite taste of ammonia
- 1 pure poison
- 0 plutonium / kills everyone in 20 m radius
- One more day of work and then it’s my day off again! It’s like magic. How’d that happen?!
- Enjoying Katie Mack’s The End of Everything, and also appreciating especially that she’s used quotations from two of my favourite SF authors to head chapters. (Ann Leckie for chapter 1, N.K. Jemisin for chapter 2.)
- Lisa managed to fix something very precious that broke.
- Immunocompromised friend has her date for her COVID vaccination!
- The weekend is happening right on time as far as I’m concerned.
- Getting along pretty well with new therapist, who spells my name correctly and checked what name to refer to me by, unlike the previous one.

- I’ve achieved zero on several inboxes for a few days in a row now and I’m loving the sense of not-panic it gives me.

- I may have finally found a paper that will work as a source for part ii of this assignment.
- My new therapist seems pretty great.
- The sound of rain on the trees.
- A very damp butcherbird sheltering on the windowsill and singing.
- Hot dogs for lunch.

- An evening chatting with two workmates - one of them has moved to a flat near work so it’s easy to drop in on the way home.
- Jeremy took some healthy nuts and seeds and TOTALLY spoiled them by roasting them in honey.

- I’m enjoying the image of Tiberius Holmes, Roman Emperor and Investigator, after reading A Fatal Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum and telling Lisa about the Emperor Tiberius actually investigating a crime scene. The whole book is a surprisingly fun survey of the Roman attitude to homicide, without getting too far from actual sources.
- Package! I had a no-spend January, so now I have ordered a whole bunch of things I wanted, including a history of biscuits (no, really), and that has now arrived.
- I kept it light today, work-wise, and got to play an extra hour of FFXV.
- This Twitter thread about some Magpies demanding food.
- A Magpie ringtone!
- Today my garden had a small flock of three pre-teen scrub turkeys. I hadn’t seen any of the babies for many days and was worried that cats had got them all, so it was great to see three of them at once!
- Resident Alien
- Jeremy made little cakes.
- My history of biscuits book is duly entertaining (it’s The Biscuit: The History of a Very British Indulgence, by Lizzie Collingham – but it starts in Pompeii and hasn’t reached Britain’s shores yet).
- Not long until K.J. Charles’ new book is out. I haven’t been reading the Will & Kim books because I know she’s struggling to write the third and I don’t want to start until I can binge them, so I’m very much looking forward to this one.
- I just got a postcard via Postcrossing which tells me that the sender has a bathroom full of ducks, an image which very much tickled me, and I am very much hoping to discover how on earth this came to be when I message them back. I am assuming they mean live ducks, but honestly a bathroom “full of” rubber duckies could also be an entertaining story. Stay tuned? Also, they picked a Nijntje (Miffy) postcard.
- A day of doing nearly nothing productive, mostly watching movies with Jeremy.
