I derail a lot on morning pages that it makes my comments not so visible
I think it is like you point out: all or nothing
In the privacy section under the Settings tab for a single goal, exists the option to sho or hide hashtags as comments on the graph.
And as far as I know, the graph will plot all hashtags regardless of overlap, as we see on your graph. Thus it would be up to you to set the date range of the graph such to minimize these overlaps.
There would be some other workarounds, like editing each of the derail comments to no longer contain the derail in the form of a hashtag.
This also seems like a justification for having the option “Show hashtags from comments on the graph” split into two, one to include hashtags from Beeminder generated comments and to include hashtags from user generated comments.
