Logging time spent not snacking, curbing snack habits

Hi there,

I am new here. I have a habit of snacking throughout the day, it’s terrible for my teeth. Anywho, initially I made a beeminder to not eat whilst standing (as I would snack a lot whilst cruising the kitchen) but then I ended up plating up all my snacks. Same amount of snacks, but more dishes, so I scrapped that.

Today, after I finished breakfast, I set a 4-hour fasting countdown timer on my watch. I did the same after lunch. It’s been a day, but it felt like I had a clear goal to reach, and I didn’t even consider snacking, plus I felt a sense of achievement, which I didn’t feel with the do less standing snacking goal. It’s only been a day, but I’ve set up a Beeminder to give this a go.

My questions are… does anyone have a similar habit and found a solution that worked for them? And, would there be a way to automate the data input? Preferably on my watch. Some helpful people on this forum explained how to create a shortcut from my watch to input data and perhaps this would be the best option for this too.

Thanks for your help, this forum is great.

My low-tech way of dealing with snacking is just to constantly chew strong mint gum so that snacks don’t taste good, and if I decide I’m fiendishly hungry anyway, I have a rule where I eat a bunch of carrots first. So far I haven’t needed a beeminder goal for this, since I feel like it’s covered by my weight-maintenance/daily-weighin goal, but I feel like the carrots are probably beeminder-able (maybe like a once-a day “first food intake was a fistful of carrots” goal).
