Spending moratorium: help needed!

Using Beeminder and StickK is helpful achieving success on all my goals except one. I failed at a spending moratorium with both software. It’s a negative goal, trying to spend much less money in certain pleasure categories of my budget, particularly on fairly big ticket items such as the latest mostest bestest expensive thingy my heart is burning to acquire. I will try again to put in place a newly structured spending moratorium goal. I’m toying with the idea of making it a positive goal this time. But how???

You could consider a positive savings goal instead. So, if you spend $500 over your budget each month have a beeminder goal to save $500.

Seems like a simple and effective solution worth trying. Thanks!
