Breaking down a goal into multiple sub-goals

First off, I have to say that answering text messages is the thing I am the worst at, since I have no interest in entertaining conversations for hours while I could instead be scrolling on Instagram.

I had a goal called sms_zero that asked me to answer to a list of applications:

  • iMessages
  • Instagram
  • WhatsApp
  • Telegram
  • Line
  • Discord
  • Text messages

It worked well for a little bit, but then failed, because I built some backlog.
It became really tedious to answer texts.

My solution was to create one goal per chat app.
It should lighten the load and allow me to feel “connected” to my social circle.

I’m trying to do this right now for a goal of mine…

Mine breaks down into 3 subgoals, so I’m thinking to have 3 beeminders for each, and then a 4th meta beeminder that needs 3 datapoints per day, of which is pushed datapoints from the 3 subgoals with 3 separate IFTTT automations.

I’ll let you know if this works after testing.

Update: I tested this and it’s working great.

IFTTT is really easy to set up compared to Zapier lol

Update:

Running into some weird issues with the IFTTT integration

datapoints with a value of 1 are getting added when one of the subgoals derails… ?

It should be that the datapoint added to the meta goal is equal to the datapoint of the sub goal !

Anyone know how to fix this ?

EDIT:
Ah looks like I may have to pass the data point value through like this… (by clicking on IFTTT “ingredients”)

Will test to see if this works…

Bravo for figuring out the IFTTT integration! I think you could achieve the same thing via the native metaminder, by putting your three-points-per-day goal as the webhook for each of the others.
