I believe it’s because it’s before your reminder start time, and the fact that it’s not telling you that is a wonderful bug report! Thank you! (Also if you can confirm that diagnosis…)
Some part of me still suspects you leave bugs like this in just so you got UVIs for later

Oh and yes, diagnosis confirmed. Setting the reminder start time to earlier than the deadline does work.
I fail to see why you wouldn’t want Beeminder to remind you starting at 3pm the previous day for something that will be due next day morning.
